Annotation The procedural status and procedural functions of the investigating judge in the Ukrainian criminal proceedings through the disclosure of the contents kinds of powers and their focus on achieving stated by law objectives and targets are analyzed in the article. It is demonstrated, that the procedural status of the investigating judge is «collected» and consists of several distinct groups (types) of powers. In terms of the subject of legal regulation between the groups (types) of powers relating to the application of the measures of criminal proceedings, giving permits for overt and covert investigative (detective) actions, review and resolution of complaints against decisions, actions or omissions of the investigator, attorney, by gathering evidence, establishing procedural terms, issues of challenges, a destiny of evidence, the use of obtained information in other proceedings and group (type) of general powers to protect the rights, freedoms and interests of the individuals in criminal proceedings are allocated. Based on the analysis of these groups (types) of powers, through the light of the object, the content and its purpose the conclusion is made that the activities of the investigating judge are not only dedicated to judicial control, it is multifunctional and requires also a thorough research in all aspects: theoretical, legal and practical.
