The article is devoted to the consideration of cognitive function of expert versions, which role in the process of finding out the truth is ambiguous. Expert versions are usually put forward by an investigator (by a judge) in the formulation of questions in a decree on assigning an expert examination, expert versions are the prerogative of expert and do not necessarily coincide with the previously named versions.
