Annotation The author analyzes the right to live in accordance with Article 2 (1) of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. The issues which rose in biotechnological developments are determined in the article. The author states that chimeras are no longer the object of ancient mythology, nor are artificially created chimeras the stuff of science fiction. The uncertainties with regard to the legal status of Human-Animal chimeras should be reason enough to consider a moratorium on chimera research and to establish clear rules which apply globally and which have to be based on a better understanding of life and sentience than the knowledge which is available to us today. Therefore it will be necessary to ensure that transhumans are also afforded human rights and in particular the right to life.
