Annotation The article discusses the nature of legal dispute between England and Greece on the ownership of a part of Parthenon marbles transferred to Great Britain. The origin of the term «Elgin Marbles» is considered. The positions of both countries on the problem have been analysed. Legal analysis of Sultan's firman on the basis of which the antic values were removed is provided. Alternative solutions of the dispute have been suggested.
