Annotation | Why is the rule of law such a hot topic today all around the world? This article suggests that: 1) the global career of the concept only began late last century, because the ideological conflict between communism and liberal capitalism left no space for it earlier; 2) space became available for rhetoric of the rule of law to emerge because of ideological exhaustion late in that century; 3) Its career soared after and because of the ignominious and complete end of European communism and apparent triumph of liberal democracy; 4) However, that was not the «end of history» — either in general or for the global career of the rule of law. The article ends with a few conjectures on developments that might shape the future of that career. |
