In this article questions of the formation and development of the agrarian law of Ukraine after the collapse of the USSR and the creation of the Ukrainian independent State are brought up to attention. The place of the agrarian law in the legal system of Ukraine is shown and the prospects for the development of the Ukrainian agrarian law considering the legislative consolidation of private, municipal and state forms of property, development of farmers and individual enterprising, agricultural joint-stock companies, business partnerships and other forms of management. Proposals on improvement of the agrarian legislation, government support for agriculture, social development of rural areas, investment and innovation, development of agrarian relations in connection with the processes of Ukraine's accession to the EU, the preparation and adoption of the Agrarian Code of Ukraine are justified.
