Annotation | With the creation of Family Divisions in Maryland in 1998, all family law cases, including juvenile delinquency, were intended to be handled in one court. The Baltimore City Juvenile Division continued to operate essentially as a separate court. This study reviewed data and information from unified family courts in Delaware, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, and Indiana regarding the integration of delinquency into a unified family court. The report examined unified family court development and juvenile crime and violence in Maryland, as well as the impact of separating juvenile matters from family court proceedings. The article concluded that the incorporation of juvenile delinquency into the family court’s subject ¬matter jurisdiction offers significant benefits to the system as a whole. |
