The paper conducted a retrospective study of changes in the legal status of the Supreme Court since its creation and the present. The author concludes that the status model of the highest court of the state, which was established in accordance with applicable law, is new to the national practice. However current global models of organization of the judicial system have such an experience. The paper advocates the view that borrowing of positive foreign experience will contribute to the improvement of the domestic model of the judicial system in strengthening the constitutional and legal status of the Supreme Court as the highest court in the system of courts of general jurisdiction.
