The article is focused on the UN mechanisms for documenting international crimes committed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The purpose of the article is not only to review the existing documentation mechanisms, but also to highlight the directions and approaches to form a comprehensive application of these tools, which is important for the further development of international justice and prevention of international crimes in the future.

The UN mechanisms for documenting international crimes committed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine are an important part of the global response to violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in the context of armed conflict. Given the inability of the UN Security Council to make decisions through the veto, the use of the mechanisms of the UN General Assembly and other bodies becomes necessary to ensure the international legal order. In this context, the establishment of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Violations in Ukraine, as well as the work of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, have become the main tools for documenting Russia’s crimes. At the same time, the UN General Assembly has adopted a number of resolutions condemning Russian aggression and supporting international mechanisms for the investigation of international crimes.

The author emphasizes the importance of these mechanisms for accountability for war crimes, as well as for further mobilization of the international community in the fight for justice. As the article shows, the documentation process is the basis for further legal steps, including international investigations and trials. The study covers not only the role of the UN, but also the UN’s cooperation with other international organizations.

Particularly important is the emphasis on the fact that UN mechanisms should be integrated into a single system that would include not only the procedural recording of facts, but also ensuring the effective functioning of international and national institutions to assess evidence and bring perpetrators to justice.

The author also emphasizes the importance of the functioning of the Register of Damages Caused by Russian Aggression, which will become an important tool for further legal action. The author provides a comprehensive view of the issues of documenting international crimes in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of interstate and international cooperation in the struggle for the recovery of international law.
