The relevance of this study is determined by the need to explore and practically improve the mechanisms for compensation of damage caused by armed conflict. This issue is a critically important aspect of international law, particularly given the increasing number of armed conflicts and their impact on civilian populations, infrastructure, and the environment. This emphasises the importance of ensuring the effectiveness of mechanisms for restoring justice and adhering to international legal standards concerning such mechanisms. The purpose of this study is to analyse the main international legal principles of compensation for this type of damage and assess their practical application. The research employs a comprehensive set of scientific methods, including the systematic method (for a comprehensive analysis of the international legal principles of compensation), the comparative legal method (for examining different legal systems and practices in applying international law), the formal legal method (for analysing international treaties, judicial, and arbitration practices), methods of analysis (for detailing specific aspects of the problem and summarizing the collected data), as well as the generalization method (for forming overall conclusions and recommendations regarding the improvement of compensation mechanisms). As a result, key principles were identified: the principle of state responsibility, the principle of full compensation, and the main forms of compensation – restitution, compensation, and satisfaction. It was analysed the role of relevant international legal acts in the field of regulation of compensation for damage caused by armed conflict. The main challenges, including political obstacles, legal complexities, and financial constraints, were identified as factors complicating the compensation process. Prospects for further research are to look for ways to improve international legal mechanisms for compensation and developing effective means for their implementation, which will strengthen the international legal order and help prevent future conflicts.
