The article highlights the relationship and mutual influence of the monuments of law of Ukraine – Rus on the genesis of Ukrainian statehood in its main aspects. Purpose of the article. The authors set themselves the goal of studying the development of Ukrainian statehood, starting from the era of the Rus state with its center in Kyiv and important milestones in its establishment, which found their embodiment in the most outstanding monuments of law created by the Ukrainian people and their political elite at that time. This goal is specified in the following tasks: to determine the significance of legal monuments as attributes of Ukrainian statehood at the most important stages of its formation and development; to analyze the main aspects of research in domestic historical and legal literature in the study of the mutual influence and interconnection of the development of Ukrainian statehood and Ukrainian law. Methodological basis. The main methodological principle was the principle of historicism, which allowed analyzing historical facts and phenomena in development and interconnection. This principle allowed the authors to consider the evolution of Ukrainian statehood in time dynamics in the context of those historical changes that occurred in a given period, to clarify their impact on the nature and forms of activity of state bodies. The principle of multifactoriality made it possible to study objective and subjective factors of the historical development of Ukrainian statehood together, taking into account both general trends and temporal features. The article emphasizes the political, scientific and educational significance of the problem of the history of Ukrainian statehood, its connection with the current problems of life in modern Ukraine. This is especially relevant today, during the War for Independence of Ukraine against Russian aggression. The article considers the issue of the sources of law as the material causes of the emergence of law in the Russian state, the sources of law as a form of its expression, starting from ancient times, the sources of knowledge of law in the Russian state. The authors focused their attention on the characteristics of the meaning of the main monuments of law, starting from the first stages of the genesis of Ukrainian statehood.
