The article investigates the quality standards of professional legal assistance and the problematic aspects of the involvement of Advocates to the legal responsibility in the event of non-compliance with these quality standards. The author notes that the provision of qualified legal assistance is impossible without adequate control over such activity on the part of the professional community of Advocates, and on the part of the judiciary. At the same time, the article says, the absence of an appropriate mechanism to prosecute the Advocates of any kind of the legal responsibility is due to the inefficient quality assessment system of professional legal assistance provided by Advocates. The author concludes that it is appropriate to develop the quality standards of advocacy in individual categories of legal disputes and to disseminate positive experience of the functioning of the system of free legal aid in this respect on all the сommunity of the Advocates of Ukraine.
