Separate issues in protection of civil rights under the change and termination of contractual obligations are investigated in the article.

The right of a person to protect his civil rights qualifies as one of the powers of the subjective right of a person. The author exposes the concepts of «violation of right», «non-recognition of right» and «challenging the right» regarding the right of a party in the contractual obligation.

Special attention is paid to such method for civil rights protection, as modification of legal relations, the essence of which in contractual relations is to change the conditions of the contract and the termination of the relationship, which is regarded not only as a means of protection of civil rights by a court, but also as a way of self-defense.

The author grounded the expedience of expansion of circle of subjects, called to protect civil rights by attributing to him the Authorized Human Rights Representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and also adding methods for protection of civil rights, by establishment of civil legal relationships.
