The article describes scientific views on the institute of advocacy in the works of pre-revolutionary scientists. Moreover, works and views of prominent scientist A. Hordon are subject of the study. Contribution of the scientist to the development of science of civil law as well as basic scientific works in the field of advocacy are analyzed. Pre-revolutionary scientists who were the first to determine and study the institute of advocacy are mentioned.
