The article is devoted to the critical analysis of the current legal status of the authorized body on personal data protection in Ukraine on the basis of the European experience of becoming the institute of protection of personal data and his development trends.

The necessity to change the legal status of the authorized body on personal data protection in Ukraine is substantiated and the mechanism of his reorganization which will guarantee its independence in the exercise of their powers by fixing procedures for the appointment and dismissal of the head of the body and his vice in the Constitution of Ukraine is proposed.
