The issues of the formation of theoretical and methodological foundations, substantive fields of legal political studies, their institutionalization in the system of political and legal sciences are analyzed. The main factors shaping the legal political studies as an independent complex branch of the political science are determined. The author states that knowledge about law is the fundamental base of legal politicalstudies because law is an evaluation criterion of all politics. The subject of legal political studies is determination of character, essence and regularity of interaction between political factors and law, legal phenomena. Legal political studies comprise the research of political phenomena, which emerge during the formulation of legal acts and influence on their adoption and modifying, mechanisms and regularities of interaction between legal and nonlegal (political) factors, which affect social relations, regulated by law. Therethrough it helps to elicit the new tendencies and regularities of legal and political development, which are ignored by some branches of jurisprudence.
